What is Hearth? A free, private AI that lives on your own computer
Hearth is a free AI you can talk to — and it lives on your own computer, not in some company's data center. You open it in your browser, ask it anything, and the answers come from your own machine. That one difference changes everything about it.
What you get
- Free, forever. No subscription, no message limits, no “Pro” tier. Because it runs on your computer, there's nothing to bill.
- Completely private. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. There's no server on the other end to read it. Ask the awkward questions.
- Works without internet. After a one-time download, it keeps working on a plane, at the cabin, or when the wifi dies.
- No account. No sign-up, no email, no password. You open it and start talking.
- It can see photos. Attach a picture and ask about it — the photo stays on your device too.
- Install it like an app. One click puts Hearth in your Dock, in its own window.
What's it good for?
Everyday help: “What can I make with chicken, rice and a bell pepper?” — “Help me word this email to my landlord.” — “Explain fractions like I'm 10.” It's not trying to replace ChatGPT for huge projects — it's the everyday AI that's actually yours.
The only catch
Your first visit downloads the AI — a few minutes, one time. That's the entire price. Like downloading a movie before a flight: once it's home, it's yours. Offline, free, forever.
Try it
- Open hearth.kevinchamplin.com in Chrome or Edge
- Click “Light the hearth” and let it download once
- Ask it anything — then turn your wifi off and watch it keep working
Hearth is something I built because I think AI should have a free, private front door for the curious. The full source is public — contributions welcome — and I'd love to hear what you think — it goes straight to me.
