WordPress Is the Old Way — It’s Time for Something Better
For more than 15 years, WordPress ruled the web. I built hundreds of sites on it. Agencies loved it. Developers loved it. Clients… tolerated it.
But here’s the truth nobody likes to admit:
- WordPress is bloated.
- WordPress is expensive.
- WordPress is the old way.
And in 2025, businesses deserve something better.
Why I’m Done with WordPress
Let me put it plainly:
- 1. WordPress is slow and weighed down by plugins.
Every feature you want? Another plugin.
Every plugin? Another thing slowing your site down.
It’s a constant stack of duct tape that eventually collapses. - It’s constantly hacked — because it’s the biggest target.
Hackers don’t bother going after niche platforms…
They attack the giant with the biggest surface area.
WordPress has become the Windows XP of the internet. - It’s “free” but never actually free.
You pay for:
- Premium plugin
- Premium theme
- Security tool
- Hosting upgrades
- Developers to fix the things those developers broke
By the time you’re done, you could have built something faster, safer, and more modern for less money. - Updates break things. Constantly.
Core updates. Plugin updates. Theme updates. PHP version updates.
And every update comes with that stomach-drop moment of:
“Please don’t break… please don’t break… please don’t break.”
This is not how professional websites should operate.
I Deleted My Own WordPress Site
My old kevinchamplin.com was on WordPress.
And you know what?
- I got sick of the maintenance.
- Sick of the slow load times.
- Sick of babysitting plugins.
So I deleted the entire thing and rebuilt it from scratch using a simple stack:
Laravel, JavaScript, MySQL.
It’s fast.
It’s clean.
It works.
And it doesn’t fight me.
It feels like the future — because it is.
The Future of the Web Isn’t WordPress
The future looks like this:
- Fast platforms
- Modern tech stacks
- Secure-by-design systems
- AI-driven tools
- No plugin nightmares
That’s why I build custom sites through Ironcrest Software in Naperville, and why my agency 815 Media, LLC in La Salle is transitioning clients to better systems in 2026.
Between AI, automation, and next-gen frameworks…
there’s no reason to settle for a 20-year-old CMS held together by 200 plugins.
